Prom in 2021

In the last year many things have changed and happened. Many students were overjoyed to hear that they would be having a prom after all the troubles and things that had happened.  In 2020 many high school juniors and seniors were not given a prom. To many students, prom is a night where you can dress up, have fun with your friends, and just take in the high school experience. Many students look forward to it, but last year, when it was taken away, many people were devastated. Some parents last year wanted to give their high school juniors and seniors that night to remember even if it wasn't a normal prom. After all the preparation and time put in, many schools allowed their students to have a prom this year. Most of the schools only allowed seniors to go because with juniors and seniors there would be too many people in an area, which would not be ideal considering we are still in a COVID world. Schools required students to wear masks and maintain proper social distancing. Hopefully in years to come, prom will be back to normal.

24 Dead after Bridge Collapses in Mexico City

“I did not have any report nor alert of any problem that could have led us to this situation”, said Mexico City mayor Claudia Sheinbaum

One of the deadliest accidents in the history of the subway occurred Monday night when the support beams of the Mexico City metro collapsed, killing a total of 24 and injuring more than 70 people.

“I’m tired and unable to sleep,” Said Carlos Miramar, while going to receive the body of his uncle. “He didn’t deserve this end. He was a good father, good husband and good son.”

The Mexico City metro is among the cheapest in the world for tickets, at just 25 cents, and has had at least three serious accidents since its creation a half-century ago. In March of 2020, a collision between trains left one passenger dead and 41 injured. 12 were injured in 2015 when a train failed to stop at a station and collided with another. 26 people were killed in another accident in 1975.

“That part there was already declared bad ... in the earthquake, and the authorities didn’t pay attention, noting similar problems were reported at another nearby station, but nothing was done. “They are time bombs.” Said Julio Yañez, a 67-year-old lawyer.

The Do's and Don'ts of Helping a Teen with Depression

Depression in teenagers can be caused by a variety of circumstances, and it can manifest itself in a variety of ways. A kid may suffer from significant depression only once, or it may be a chronic depressive disease, such as bipolar disorder (or manic depression), which is characterized by phases of euphoria and despair.

Depression can be caused by many factors which include family history, certain brain chemicals, negative thoughts, and peer pressure. Today's teenagers confront additional demands that their parents did not experience as teenagers. Navigating social media circles, cyberbullying, and increasingly unrealistic media expectations to appear and act a certain way all contribute to a teen's self-worth and can lead to significant unhappiness.

Many teens with depression won’t readily admit a problem. They may feel as if “life is unfair” and even lose hope that things will ever turn around, but they may not know how to express their feelings or ask for help. There are some effective steps you can take to help your child. Listen without comment, set aside time each day to talk. Let your teen know that you are open and available, without judgment, if they need anything. Ask open-ended questions to create space for dialog, Schedule family time. Eat meals together and organize fun family activities, genuinely praise your teen for specific behaviors and accomplishments to help boost his confidence, Help your child foster relationships. Encourage them to schedule time with friends who play a positive role in her life, and to find some new friends, as well. Healthy relationships are key to a teen’s self-esteem, Make time for your child’s interests or community service projects. Helping others can foster gratitude and make one’s own problems seem smaller, encourage good eating, sleeping and exercise habits, which can improve overall mood. Encourage team-sporting activities for the health benefits and social network and Talk to a trusted professional about how best to approach your teen and get the help they need.

A doctor may prescribe individual, group or family counseling, and/or medications to help your child begin feeling better. Don’t Force communication, lecture or try to “fix the problem.” Sometimes just being in the same room doing separate activities can be helpful, remind teens they are loved and appreciated, and respond to aggression with aggression. Try to maintain a caring attitude and remain as calm as you can. Leave the room if you need a breather.

BISCUITS VS. SCONES

What are Biscuits? What are Scones? Which is tastier? Which is better? These are questions that will never be answered fully. They are two kinds of Biscuits, One originated in England, And one originated in America. American Biscuits are small, fluffy quick bread, leavened with baking powder or buttermilk and served with butter and jam or gravy.

They are close to what the British would call scones.  Biscuits in the UK are hard (the word originally meant twice cooked) and refer to sweet biscuits. Next up is Scones. Scones in America have a different meaning than in England. In America, scones are the same as in England, but in America, biscuits are different than in England. A biscuit (in the USA) is a savory, quick bread that is usually round and is served buttered with a meal, or sometimes with gravy.

Scones in England are the crumbly cakes that Brits eat with butter, jam, and sometimes clotted cream, and always a cup of tea. Some of the main ingredients for biscuits were Milk, Butter, and Flour. The main ingredients for Scones were Flour, Sugar, and baking powder. In conclusion, I guess we will never really know which is better since they're both delicious. But personally, I like Scones better, YUM!
